NEGOSIASI IDENTITAS GENDER TOKOH AURORA DALAM FILM JALAN YANG JAUH, JANGAN LUPA PULANG

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Aurora’s language use in the film Jalan yang Jauh, Jangan Lupa Pulang and its role in negotiating gender identity. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a gender sociolinguistic perspective. The data source consisted of Aurora’s dialogues in the film, collected through observation, transcription, and classification based on Robin Lakoff’s women’s language features. Data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Aurora’s language use is dynamic and contextual, influenced by social relations, emotional situations, and interpersonal interactions. In certain situations, Aurora employs mitigation strategies through hedges and politeness forms to maintain relational harmony, while in other situations she uses more direct and resistant language to assert personal boundaries and negotiate her identity. The study demonstrates that women’s language cannot be universally interpreted as a form of subordination, but rather as a social practice related to resistance, power relations, and identity construction in social interaction.
